A project in progress

The
Emissary

What do we carry into the world?

The Emissary began with a conversation between TJ and his mother about her life as a diplomat.

While they waited at home for news as his sister was in hospital giving birth, she described the preparation, protocols and responsibility of representing a home nation in another country.

The conversation sparked an analogy: the human being as an emissary, carrying something from a deeper source into the world.

What happens when an emissary remembers where they come from? What happens when they forget?

Those questions became the foundation for a trilogy: The Emissary, The Protocol and Convention.

The project brings together musical traditions that have shaped TJ’s life, exploring spirituality alongside ordinary human experience.

Relevance

When the mind is full of questions, what does the soul have to say?

The new single explores that conversation, asking what remains relevant beneath the competing demands and noise of everyday life.

Nyansapo

Wisdom knot

Wisdom, resourcefulness and patience. The knot invites thoughtful understanding.

An Adinkra symbol from Akan visual tradition, appearing on the artwork for Relevance.

Why I chose it

Relevance is a conversation with the wise part of yourself. I chose Nyansapo, the wisdom knot, because the wisdom we seek lives within us, bound to who we are, as our soul is. The song is an invitation to listen to that wisdom.
