Behind the symbol · Relevance
Wisdom knot
Wisdom, resourcefulness and patience. The knot invites thoughtful understanding.
An Adinkra symbol from Akan visual tradition, appearing on the artwork for Relevance.
Why I chose it
Relevance is a conversation with the wise part of yourself. I chose Nyansapo, the wisdom knot, because the wisdom we seek lives within us, bound to who we are, as our soul is. The song is an invitation to listen to that wisdom.
Behind the symbol · Discerning
Ram’s horns
Strength held together with humility, and an openness to learning.
An Adinkra symbol from Akan visual tradition, appearing on the artwork for Discerning.
Discerning opens the journey: recognising who you are and finding the strength within to follow your own path. I chose Dwennimmen, the ram’s horns, because it brings strength and humility together—the courage to choose your direction, and the humility to understand both your strengths and your limitations.
Behind the symbol · Us
Joining of hearts
Togetherness, agreement and unity. Separate hearts brought into connection.
An Adinkra symbol from Akan visual tradition, appearing on the artwork for Us.
I chose Akoma Ntoaso, the joining of hearts, to represent love and freedom. Us is about a connection that allows room for distance: two hearts can be far apart and still belong together. Togetherness, even when apart.
Behind the symbol · Identity
Times change · Butterfly
A reminder that circumstances change: good fortune calls for humility, and difficulty can give way to hope. Fafanto represents tenderness, gentleness, honesty and fragility.
An Adinkra symbol from Akan visual tradition, appearing on the artwork for Identity.
I chose Mmere Dane, “times change,” as a reminder that whatever situation we find ourselves in, time moves on and circumstances change. Beside it, Fafanto, the butterfly, brings tenderness. For me, these symbols make room for an identity that is still unfolding, and for gentleness towards ourselves along the way.
Behind the symbol · This Hurricane
Twisting
The winding path of life, and the resilience and adaptability needed to move through it.
An Adinkra symbol from Akan visual tradition, appearing on the artwork for This Hurricane.
I chose Nkyinkyim for This Hurricane because its twists and turns reflect life itself. Change can feel like a whirlwind, moving faster than we can make sense of it. The symbol reminds me that change is woven into being alive: life keeps moving, and the only constant is change.
